The first years of primary education are the beginning of a new stage of a child’s life. One of the major milestones of the primary years is learning how to read and write. We care deeply about the child’s development stages and we respect their needs during this transition time from kindergarten.
Primary school is a moment of discovery, curiosity, and new achievements. At AIS, we prioritize a bilingual immersion where the student will become comfortable and fluent in two languages: English and Portuguese.
At AIS we believe in active learning methodologies which are present in all areas of our school. However, during primary school, this takes a particular and special role.
Our goal is to empower our students, and to do so we want to develop their critical thinking through areas like maths, social studies, and sciences. Communication skills can only be gained through a multidisciplinary approach.
Art is all around us, we just need to open our minds to see it. We want to provide a feeling of discovery and creativity in all our students, through whatever form of art they choose to see. Painting, drama, music, movies, books, photography, and even getting messy at times with our canvas.
We deeply believe that our bodies and minds are directly connected, and to explore our potential we need to cultivate a healthy lifestyle while promoting movement and physical activity.
The world is changing, and we need to provide our students with the right tools for their future. Technology and innovation are new tools that can help our students to get involved with the curriculum.
What connects us are our values, regardless of where we come from, who we are and what language we speak. Multiculturalism is a reality at AIS, where our students are encouraged to engage with the local community as well as with new learners who are from other parts of the globe.
Kindness can’t be taught; it needs to be shown so that we can take it with us through life. This is a fundamental goal of every education community: to embrace differences and provide growth opportunities to every child.
