Almada International School Curriculum

In an increasingly global world, we understand the importance of equipping our students with skills that prepare them for a dynamic and multicultural reality.

Therefore, the presence of a strong and internationally recognized curriculum like Cambridge in our school allows our students to acquire a set of unique and differentiating learning experiences. In this initial phase of the project, as candidates for the Bilingual Schools Programme, promoted by the Ministry of Education, we will ensure, from Early Years to the end of the 1st cycle, the national curriculum, complemented with the skills proposed by the Cambridge curriculum*.

In addition to this, our teaching team predominantly communicates in English, creating an environment that fosters student immersion in a bilingual reality. In a subsequent phase, AIS will offer its students the opportunity to, from Year 5, choose between the national curriculum and the international curriculum.

Nursery and Kindergarten

We offer an educational project that places the child at the centre of the pedagogical action and, therefore, the Nursery and Kindergarten areas deserve our highlight and are considered fundamental for the happiness, well-being and personal and academic success of the children.

In Nursery school and Kindergarten we want everyone to grow up secure, confident and free and we aim to stimulate their natural curiosity. We ensure a bilingual environment, in an immersive context. For us, emotions are as important as physical activity and the self-care of our children is an aspect that we do not neglect.

We therefore believe that outdoor play and exploration is an essential part of learning and growth.

Primary

Today’s world is full of global challenges and multiculturalism is a reality we want to embrace. To this end, we present a unique curriculum that ensures bilingualism in an immersive context and adopts active learning methodologies that give the child the role of protagonist in the construction of their knowledge. Following the national curricular, in Primary school, we deepen and enrich it with the inclusion of specific subjects and we promote the similarity to the Cambridge International Curriculum.

Literature and books come alive in the pedagogical proposals and in the spaces created in each classroom, as well as technological, artistic and physical-motor skills. Critical thinking, the sense of community and the values of respect, kindness and tolerance will be present in our daily
