Phonics in the Primary Years

A Key Milestone

Learning to read and write is one of the most important stages of a child’s early education.

Developmental Stages

We support each child through the transition from Kindergarten to the Primary Years, respecting their individual pace and needs.

Play-Based Learning

Children begin their literacy journey through play-based activities from Nursery onwards.

Early Introduction

Phonics is formally introduced in Kindergarten 5Y, laying strong foundations for reading and writing.

Daily Practice

From Primary Year 1, children consolidate their learning through daily Phonics lessons alongside a rich English language curriculum.

Bilingual Learning

Students learn through English while being supported in Portuguese, ensuring fluency in both languages and continuity with the National curriculum.

The Arts

We encourage creativity and self-expression through painting, drama, music, films, books, photography and hands-on exploration, allowing children the freedom to express themselves in meaningful ways.

Physical Education

In Primary, we prioritise Physical Education by guaranteeing three 45-minute PE lessons each week, supporting healthy lifestyles through regular movement and physical activity.

Digital Literacy

The world is changing, and we need to provide our students with the right tools for their future. Technology and innovation are new tools that can help our students to get involved with the curriculum in exciting new ways.

Meet Guy Brickley

With over 20 years of experience in education, Guy is a dedicated Primary educator and leader.

He holds an MA in Education and International Development which specialised in Parental involvement in schools. He has many years of experience teaching in the UK and Asia. Guy believes in a holistic approach to education where each child is valued as an individual with infinite potential.
